Gyotaku: fish printing

by Elaine Luther on April 18, 2008

Friends and I have been doing a bit of an art club with the kids, and have just finished a section on printmaking. The kids loved doing gyotaku, or fish printing. We used the rubber fish.

In looking for cool fish prints to show them, I found this contemporary artist’s site: Gyotaku.com by Naoki Hayashi. I’ve never seen prints made from such huge fish. Very cool. And not just huge fish, but also prints with multiple fish, other creatures, and whole scenes.
